Default Compadre or Silver uMax? Chose the Compadre!!

I just cant make up my mind as which to get. Most all of my hunts are in parks or tot lots. Do you guys think I would benefit spending the extra cash with the uMax? What other benefits are there beside interchangeable coils and sensitivity knob?

Appreciate everyones opinions, thanks

If you're just hunting in parks and tot lots, the compadre is all you need.

All Metal mode, which I'd prefer to have. You'll find yourself outside of tot-lots before long.

I doubt you'd be disappointed in either.

I have both and personally prefer the compadre...but the umax goes deeper and covers more ground - doesn't separate nearly as well in trash or iron though. Not quite as responsive in my little experience.

Loved my S Umax..but I think the compad. is all you really need. Go that route then save up for a nicer machine..the compadre will pay for itself quickly.

I love my compadre. I mostly use it for parks and tot lots. It excels in all my needs. I'm sure you could find a mod to change to a bigger coil if you wanted. The silver max might go a little deeper but my compadre will detect the head of a tack at 10" deep. I really don't want to dig much deeper than that anyways. You will love either of those machines

Thanks for all the great input guys! I decided to go with the Compadre. Seems like the winner for where I usually hunt. Everyone here has been very helpful!

You made a good choice! KT's first MD was a BH Tracker IV and He recovered plenty of coin with it the first year so He could consider a second Totlot machine...and He chose the Compadre also. Learning it now and havin a ball! It is a bit of a change to go from a 3 tone MD to a single tone, but after a bit, your ears will begin to adjust and you will be able to tell the chirpy broken and often non-repeatable tone of junk to the strong solid repeatable tone of both coins and those darn screwcaps! LOL And although I dig some pulltabs, its not as many as when I first started out with this MD.

Thanks for the tips on the Compadre KT. I enjoy reading your posts, you are indeed the Totlot King!

I am spoiled with the 3 tone..haahaaa. That bad thing about tones is you end up finding yourself cherry picking possibly missing great targets! At least the Compadre will force me to dig more haahaa!

I use the Tracker as a quick surface feeder and love it. But boy, that Compadre is unbelievable. Last year I found a gold ring on one of these Texas mosquitos.

On my 3rd hunt with the Compadre, I recovered a 5 gram gold ring at 8 inches....that's about 2 inches below the range of the Tracker from my experience!

Once you have decided where to set your discrimination, dig every solid signal you get.

The Compadre came UPS today, gonna try it out in the yard tomorrow and see if it turns up anything new. The yard has already been hunted out with the BH Lonestar...cant wait to see how it performs!

Rivgum, I am one week ahead of you. My Compadre arrived last tuesday.

I hit a tot lot yesterday and worked it with the 1 cent/zinc discrimination setting, just to clear off all those pesky quarters, dimes, and pennies. Then, went back through with the disc on the O in IRON to look for all this gold everyone talks about. Time was short, so I was only able to sweep about 1/3 of the tot lot (going back tomorrow). I didn't find gold in that one third, but items as minuscule as BB-sized metal snaps were screaming at me.

People complain that all the old coins are "hunted out," but I think it's safe to say that all the tiny bits of gold jewelry that people lost are still out there waiting for Compadre owners to find.

I am glad the compadre is working out for ya. I still havent got out due to work obligations. I like the plan you have to clear the tot lot of coins first then go back for the gold! Keep us updated on the other two thirds!
