Was at work this AM and decided today might be a good day to take half a vacation day. So off I went at 1 to hurry home grab my detector and be at the spot at 2. Started working a little where i was the other day trying to get to the old road that would have led up to the homestead that was found the other day. While working toward the road not far from it (well past where I was the other day) Got a nice 38-39 on the Safari and dug about 5 inches down under a root and pulled the Merc, rechecked the hole and there were a couple wheaties. Kept going and made it to the road I was looking for and on it dug the thing that looks like a part of a Sundial. I kept working the road for a little longer and pulled the American Safety Razor thing. Decided to work back to near where I was the other day but I decided to work a little further away from the water. I pulled a couple wheats (one turned out to be an Indian Head 10th IH of the year) got a weird loud signal around a 30 which only showed a few inches down and pulled the Bulova Watch that says 10k gold filled on the watch back and the band says 1/20th 12k gold filled. If anyone has a thought on the age I would appreciate it. A few feet over from that got a deep jumpy signal going from 35-39 dug down and saw the words Half Dollar on the back, ended up being a 1906 Barber Half (My first Barber Half) wrapped it up shortly thereafter. Thanks for looking everyone.

Wow cool finds! The Bulova is cool I was originally thinking it may be worth appraisal but who knows.
There is a market for vintage watches, if it is 50's of 60's era. It's a matter of whether or not restoration costs are merited. |

I'd be happy with all those finds. The razor thing is really cool and so is the sundial. That would be great to clean up and use in science class. Then to top it off with an IH and then a Barber half...sweet. Great finds and keep up the good work.

This spot is pretty old but it's been used for a longer period of years. Two large cents came from this area and my research shows it was in use in the late 1600's. Although I have yet to pull anything that old yet. I still have quite a bit of area to cover there.

I'd bet at most of your spots they were out of use by the mid to late 1800's. I have only found a couple sites that were like yours that contained only old stuff. The nice thing about those sites is if you get a good signal you know it's old. Even yesterday for me a few Lincoln's snuck into the spot (nothing worse that a deep Lincoln when your in a spot where your pulling old stuff)

Scott, at a foundation a few days ago i got a good 02-27 on the Minelab and sure enough a 1850 LC, rechecked the hole and another this time 02-28. i thought for sure 2 for 1. but no, it was a wheat penny. there should have been some silver at that site but it had been pounded buy others in the past.

Thanks Dave I appreciate the help on that. I figured it was probably early to mid 1900's with the other objects around it.
