Default Should It Be Allowed

These forums are for someone in the hobby or parts of some forums are for the hobby. I have seen people on other forums that I felt have never picked up a detector, had no finds to post only things from a tag sale or something, and yet they can sit behind a key board and trash your find. If you post in the what's it section, especially an awesome find, their seems to be a person that kinda stalks that section with nothing ever to show, just a computer and a keyboard. Information is always good but be certain that it is the absolute facts, otherwise state so. Dose not matter if its a rusty nail you post at least you know you're out doing the hobby. Friendly's seems to be more for the hobby and I think the moderators watch out for keyboard stalkers. Thanks! I only mention this because of reading some posts about speculation of friends joining to boost numbers. Keep the hobby clean!....HH....401K

You talking about your insanely low price in classifieds? Can't blame anyone for hesitating...

I guess that I don't fully understand what you're asking about here, but I think those problems about "thrashing finds" and such have nothing to do with a members experience or interest in the hobby (or lack thereof). I see nothing wrong with someone joining and participating who has never picked up an MD, so long as they observe the rules and show the same respect that we should show them. Who knows......this forum might ignite the spark in them to pick it up and become passionate about it as we have.

I've been a member in a few other forums (of various interests), and the lack of rude behavior on this forum just shows me an excellent combination of two things:
1) The forum members, as a whole, REALLY ARE as friendly as the forum's name suggests
2) The forum moderator's actively participate and do their job, and do it well.

Well said. I participate in forums dealing with my other hobbies (cars, shooting, and golf) which are not nearly as "friendly". It's refreshing to participate in a forum without having to contend with "mine is bigger than yours" postings.

Thumbs up

I scanned this forum a long time to see if it lived up to its name and joined on the advice of a member (triplehooked) who was totally right. This forum is the friendliest one out there, full of decent people dedicated to the hobby.I feel its a great privlage to be part of this forum and hope that anyone viewing will soon feel the same.

Very well said Dave...
I totally agree..
If someone joins just to browse and learn I see nothing wrong with that..
Perhaps that person even contributes info on an item some of us may not be familiar with then its a win, win..
Doesn't matter if they own a detector or not..It's all about learning and making this place a friendly environment for anyone that wants to learn or contribute..JMHO!

I'd wager that some of the greatest experts on coins and relics have never been on a hunt. So what? Finding things doesn't make you an expert on them, research does.

People who slam the finds of others are jerks, but their jerkiness has nothing to do with whether they find things themselves or not.

As for friendliness, I have to say that my other hobby is playing slowpitch softball, and the people who post on those boards are over-testosteroned, immature idiots who think the only way to build themselves up is to tear everybody else down. It is downright brutal.

Treasure hunters are definitely the best.

I have been on other forums of various interests and have found that this one lives up to it's name. I don't see product bashing on here like other forums. The worst are the Radar Detector forums. There is a lot product bashing. The one brand that they bash the most is Cobra. I own and use a Cobra Radar Detector even though Radar Detectors are Illegal in Virginia. I have been run off of radar detector forums for saying that I used a Cobra. At least on here people will say that a lesser brand is alright to use and learn with and not put people down for using it. I own a lesser brand MD because that is all I could afford and maybe someday I will step-up to something better.

You worthless bag of squirrel droppings!!!!! Get a life and upgrade to an XP Deus or a V3i! PHHT.

I started with a bounty hunter. I think most of us do. Nothing wrong with those units. They find metal. That's their job. You can have a ton of fun with any metal detector. It's all about the relaxation, time away from stressful garbage in life, and finding treasures too - even if it's just modern clad or a zipper pull in a tot lot.

It's all about being happy..
