Default Thimbles

Thimbles!
hey people, just found out this tidbit of info from the TV show who wants to be a millonare.
In colonial days it was common to give a thimble in place of an engagement ring.
So, the next time you find one in an known colonial area, it is possible that you have found something that was of value to it's former owner!

That doesn't make sense to me. One cannot wear a thimble - what is the purpose? Seems like something wearable could fit - wooden carved, etc. steve in so az

Sounds logical to me, but what do I know.

I attempted to give my wife a set of fry pans when we got engaged, instead of a ring.

Do you have any idea how much a doctor charges for a "Panectomy" in an emergency room?

Don't ask!

I think they were given so the bride to be could sew her husband to be in a bag the night before the wedding. This was done so his pinpointer couldn't be used.

Not nearly as much as a treatment for Ferrous Cranialpanitis

They were given to their brides-to-be as a thimble of their love
