Default ***UPDATED***(X-1 Probe) E-Trac Shaft Adaptation

I also posted this on findmall but I wanted to see if this would be of any help to anyone over here.

I just had to do it. Actually I was a bit jealous of those that are able to tuck their cord up inside the shaft of their detector. I have always been wanting to do this with my X-1 but didn't think it was possible? It works really well. Also I reinforced the part where the cable touches the insertion point with some black duct tape. Let me know what you think. Thanks

I've seen it done before. I opted to not do this as I like the ease of being able to swap coils with the coil cable on the outside, and when I go to the beach, I like to remove my X-1 probe to make the machine lighter to swing. If you're not careful, the lower shaft will tweak the cable running inside the upper shaft when you want to shorten the length of your machine for storage.

A better solution to all that ugly tape wrapped around your shafts would be to place a rubber grommet around the edge of your cut out hole to protect your coil cable from excessive wear/chaffing.

I have a smaller hole in mine with rounded corners. If you get a that big of a hurry the cord still works on the outside of the shaft. I've had no need to reinforce the shaft.

So based on some of your comments I thought that I should give it my best try to neatin things up a bit. I found some really great sticky tape that works well under the probe clip and on the handle. My most lucky find was the rubber grommet. It fit perfectly. Yeah, my earlier pics with duct tape everywhere didn't look so hot.

Now what do you guys think?

Oh yeah, my Grey Ghost headphones showed up yesterday. I like them a lot!

Professional looking. Tremendous improvement! Yeah, that grommet is a perfect fit.

Thanks for sharing.

Really? I actually like the red tip. Actually, yellow would be my next choice.

Thanks. Your comment about each liking things differently...I was thinking the exact same thing. Yes, the tape I found was a great score that I picked up an an smaller hardware store here in the Seattle area, McLendons. It feels amazing. Thin yet rubbery with a really strong sticky back. It's by LifeSafe- Soft Textured Vinyl. They come in packs of 8. By these guys http://www.lifesafedirect.com/

skyblast...

No not mine, I found them on another forum a while back.. my X1-Probe is still brand new sitting in the box I got it delivered in.. just have not had any time to try it out, besides, I really like the idea of the cable in the center of the shaft versus around it so I just use one of my Pro Pointers..
