Default Pictures and finds from historic park across the street.

This park is across the street from me, haven't really hunted in a long time. Last time I came here was with my Fisher F2. It's actually the sight where the Boston Mollassass explosion occurred in 1919. Here's the sight after the disaster in 1919. As you can tell its laden with iron, I found some rivets which could be from the disaster. Right now it's a baseball diamond.

1919

Present day

This park is directly across the Charles River from the USS Constitution Who's nicknamed "Old Ironsides" The ship was completed in 1797. Also in the picture to the left is the Bunker Hill Monument. Pretty cool setting to go detecting!

Didn't find much, but this cool old military looking pin that says Always Ready and a 1944 wheat cent, and in the loose sand by 2nd base I got a 1909 wheat cent. I just stuck the ProPointer in the sand until it went off, figured it was a memorial cent until I checked the back and date.

Sorry pics are not very good, they are from my phone.

Yes, I have had quite a bit of success in the silver department at Franklin Park. It's a massive park. The Jamaca Plain side of the park isn't too bad. If you want to give it a shot shot sometime PM me!! That park is super old and there is lots of wooded areas with old trails.

You're military pin is what is known as a DUI (Distinguished Unit Insignia). Nowadays it's what soldiers where on the blue field of their berets.

Anyhow, the one you found is for the 130th Infantry. Here's a link to what it looks like cleaned up.

Here's a nice history on the unit, which has been renamed numerous times, 7 years ago coming back to being the 130th Infantry. Depending on what the back of that pin looks like, it might be relatively new.

Hi, where do you live, the north end? I drive over the tobin almost daily and I'm always looking down trying to find potential detecting sites. Looks like a great little park. Is detecting the Boston commons legal? Probably not but it would be incredible to hit it just once. Take care.

Yup I live in the North End almost on the Charles River. There is 2 good size parks I hunt in my neighborhood. I wish I could detect the Boston Commons, but it's off limits because it's considered a Historical Landmark.

It's great seeing a before and after picture. Congratulations on the two wheat pennies...especially the 1909. It'd be nice if the letters s,v,d, and b were hiding somewhere on there.
