Ok guys so what kind of real world depth are you guys getting with your F2s? I'm considering the Vaquero depending on funds.. But I noticed alot of good said about the F2 and noticed the packages that Bart has with the F2 and three coils. Now reason I ask about depth is some locations I have access to are old wagon routes / old gone home steads through the Ozark mountains of north central Arkansas and it is plenty wooded and rocky. My thoughts are the goodies area going to be deep and wondered if the F2 would come near the depths the Tesoro Vaquero is capably of. Thanks in advance guys, Lakota.

Hey Lakota. If you're hunting in rocky areas you might need ground balancing - which the f2 doesn't have. I'd check with other detectorists in your area because depth on the f2 will be significantly reduced in highly mineralized ground.

I appreciate the input Marcus... Yeah thought about my question maybe being like compairing apples to oranges after I asked it. But hadn't considered the ground balance issue with the F2. The BH quick draw II I'm working with at the moment is about to drive me nuts in any place other then Parks / tot lots. But even so I have made some finds in the woods. Here's my lunch time finds. The key says Toronto Canada, the whistle reads " Military and Police Academy. JAPAN

I have an F2 and a Vaquero.
Because of the ability to manual GB, supertune and power balance, not to mention using the threshhold tone in all metal mode, and I suspect the Vaq just has more signal emitting power, I believe the Vaq will be deeper than the F2. I picked up a teeny-tiny stud off a very small child's pair of jeans in wood chips, (no mineralization), at a tot lot at well over 12 inches in disc. Love my F2, but I don't think this would have been possible for the F2...even with a bigger than standard coil. Don't know for sure, but I have a good feeling I am right. __________________ |

No, I was going with the Vaquero all the way. I lived in Alabama which has some of the worst mineralization in the county. For any chance at decent depth at all I had to have manual GB. Turns out, that soil was extra specially bad where I lived, so bad that hardly any machine you could name would rarely get much depth. Still, I think it did help in several areas, and I moved to a part of the country with beautiful soil, (the things you do when you commit to a hobby!), but I still would never consider owning any main detector without manual GB and always recommend that to others. Even if you have close to perfect soil, I still would want that advantage of a machine that can be optimally balanced for all sites and conditions every time. __________________ |
