Smile Buffalo in the woods

Got out for a bit before work today. Hit one of my favorite spots near my home. I found a 47 Rosie there last week. Today I found a Buffalo nickel and a 1955 Wheatie right next to each other only an inch or so deep. Very nice. It's only the third buff I've found.

Quick question. Is the black part of the nickel dirt or the actual metal? I'm afraid to scrub it and make the details disappear. Tips?

Happy Hunting!!

Nice find, Snap, congrats! I'd soak it in hot water and pick at it with toothpicks, get that crud off...

Good job on the Buff. One of the many coins that still hides from me!
