Default hi...new and clueless here...

Hi. I am new to this and don't really know a thing about it. My parents bought a whites metal detector last week and (as sweet as they are) have given me the responsability of figuring it out for them. (I think the responsability of the work too!) They have called and picked me up to go with them every day to find goodies, but we have yet to find anything! Please help with any tips! This weekend we are going to a field and an old building over one hundred years old that used to be a railroad station, post office and a school. The friend of my dad who lives there says no one has ever hunted it. I would love for my parents to find something. Thanks for any help and tips! Amanda

Sounds like a great place to find some treasures. Go slow and take the time to check around the foundations and walkways

Default go slow

One thing I think that is a good thing to do is go over an area vertical then go over the same area covering horizontal so this way you know you dont miss anything

Hello amanda and welcome! I can understand on the parents buying something and then asking for help figuring it out....my parents bought a home entertainment system last christmas with the same plan. It may be beneficial to tell everyone what model the whites is that way you can get a little more specific information. As far as actually metal detecting just remember to keep your swings as close to the ground as possible and try not to swing the detector unevenly meaning swinging it like a pendulum. This can cause falsing and loosing ground at the end of your swings. If you have any questions feel free to ask im sure someone will be able to answer them.

Welcome Amanda. Good luck as you get started. All it takes is the first find and you'll get hooked.

Hang around this forum for awhile. (Longer if you can) You're going to find a whole lot of great people who can answer many of your questions.

When you find some cool items, post some pictures so we can celebrate with you.

RD
