Last minute trip planned to San Diego or Encinitas area.

I have been "allowed" to make a last minute trip to the San Diego area. I am not committed by any means to the downtown area, but am looking for a little advice on good hunting areas, be it north or south of the area.

Any heads up in advance would be greatly appreciated. !!!
