Hello,

Need some help identifying these few finds found today along the Susquehanna River by Long Level, all the way back into Wrightsville and on the Mason Dixon Trail, Pennsylvania.

First is a bullet/silver/junk? This was found about 5 1/2 inches down, what caught my attention the most was the orange pottery with a shiny piece on it. First off, I am a beginner at this so constructive criticism please. Obviously this stone was not what detected, it was the slug of something underneath it, lucky?

The slug does not react to magnet, it shows up as silver quarter on detector, reacts with small bubbles in hydrogen peroxide, melts ice immediately, somewhat malleable with a hammer but did not want to ruin it?

Second, the long rod one pointy end, and other flattened end for prying maybe?

Hopefully someone can help me with one, or all. Much appreciated, I did send pictures of the pottery piece or stone to the museum here at Indian Steps to get some possible insight.

Thank you!

The small mystery item may be a lead slug or bale seal, hard to tell. Can you post a better pic of the rod or its dimensions? Cool brick, I hope you get a response about what it could be!

Got some information back from the museum here,

The orange piece of pottery I believe is a pottery shard of a lead glazed pie plate or vessel. At first I thought it was a very worn colonial brick, but bricks would not have remnants of glazing.
As for the other piece, I have no idea…. Possible some slag….which is a byproduct of lime-kiln processing.
You can always leave the pieces for me to look at when I am working

That's wonderful that you have a museum as a resource. Check out this recent thread about a "digging rod" that I found and was ID'd by others on this site - it could be similar to the one you posted?
