As it was a bank holiday on Monday, out of the kindness of our hearts we gave the butler and maid the day off.
Had a few friends round, played croquet on the lawn and drank champagne.

Doesn't everyone ? ;)

Can I waterhunt in front of your house? :D

You'll have to ask the gamekeeper, but I'm sure he wont mind

Ok, I have to own up. It's not actually our house. We did have a look
around, but my wife didn't like the wallpaper, and the fuel bills would have
been horrendous.

It's Audley End, which is close to Saffron Walden, in Essex, about a
40minute drive from us.
Wouldn't I love the chance to search the grounds, it's a massive estate.

Alan... you've been holding out on us... I know there are some finds that you haven't posted that can get you into a place like that...lol

Rooms within the Service Wing, including the scullery, dairy, meat and game larders and laundries, will be open to the public for the first time. They will be vividly animated with lifelike sights and sounds, film projection and even examples of food eaten in the era.

I always wondered what the kitchens looked like in those huge mansions, it's so cool that they're restoring this and opening it up to the public.

Ok Carol, just for you

In a lot of the big houses, the kitchens are in a basement. Normally a close as possible to the dining room.
At Audley End, the kitchens are to one side of the main house
