Suspender buckle?

Found yesterday, my yard, house dates to 1864.

Brass or copper.

Some sort of decorative buckle piece?
Letters at the top, can only make out "PA"

ideas?

“Pat. March 7, 1871” is likely what it reads, based on similar ones that have been posted with more legible text. Here’s the patent that it refers to:

I rechecked the hole, and I found the piece in the upper left. the letter there are NMC I think.

believe it is part of the other piece, not positive.

I actually just found one today that's in really nice shape. I can confirm it says "Pat. March 7, 1871". I do believe it's a suspender clip.
