My wife and I are brand new to the hobby and have been lucky enough to stumble on to a few neat finds. Recently I came across a post on this forum about Civil War era percussion caps and I went back to something we found.

We are still learning and would love to have someone more knowledgeable than us have a look at these pictures and tell us if we "stumbled" onto a real cap?

Thank you,
Bud

I thought it could be that too since I had no clue how big/small a percussion cap was.

what really give it away are the uneven peeling and grooves left by rifled barrel. percussion caps had pretty even tabs and are smaller from the looks of it

Late to the game but these are musket percussion caps. Pistol and rifle caps are typically smaller without the 'wings'
