I have been unable to obtain a spare bottom coil rod for my Troy X3/X5 and learnt that the Minelab Sovereign coil shaft fits the Troy upper stem.

A second-hand Minelab shaft was located and the following describes the modification.

It was a five minute conversion, the gap between coil lugs is 19mm.
I removed the teardrop washer from one side of the rod and surformed and filed that side only, down to 19mm (perfect fit, without force).
It was not necessary to replace the washer, one is perfectly adequate.
fitted coil with new nylon bolt and thumbscrew.
I'm chuffed! works great!

He is from the East Midlands, UK.

Most likely it would be cheaper to import a spare shaft from the U.S. than to buy in the U.K.
I checked on replacement headphone leads the other day for NDT Greyghosts/Nuggett Busters etc. Twice the price in the U.K., in fact you can buy a good set of new phones for the same price as the replacement lead.
