I have been fortunate enough to get out 6 times since the year began. 4 of my six silvers have been Rosie's, Now in my mind The Rosie is the least desirable silver but I'm still happy to see any silver in the hole. Today the weather was warm so I ran out for a couple of hours to a local permission for a couple of hours in the afternoon. It was a small yard and I almost forgot that I had spoke to the owner about detecting it. l put the stock coil back on the Equinox, seems My plugs were getting too big and I did not want to go into a small yard with the 15in. on. Long story short, I dug a pair of 52 Rosies, 2 wheaties, and a little clad in just over 2 hrs. Heavy rain came and chased me back to the truck.
On another hunt, last Sat. I went back to the 1820s place that was my last hunt of the 2018. I had a great hunt, I dug a one wiper, my nicest IHP so far. The day started with a good indian signal, but turned out to be a zincoln. Next I got wheat, then coming into the side yard I hear that sweet squeak with a 29-30. I said this will be good. A Merc about 6in. down.. I yell it over to my buddy and he tells me he doesn't have a coin yet but he's chasin a good signal. Five or so minutes later he pulls a nice gold ring with an emerald in it. He had a multi silver day with a bunch of wheats, 5 IHPS a V nickel and Buff. Me, I had 7 wheaties, 3 IHPS. THE Merc and a sterling ring. Now 2 of the Indians I had to soak overnite with the wheats to get a date off them. They cleaned up pretty nice but the wheaties were toasted. I did get a 1909 but very little detail was left. It was getting dark and my buddy reminded me that we still had to go in and put our feet up and chat with the owners for a little bit. I said ok just one more coin, I get a shallow 15-16,and a little bit of a squeak and a quick 27. now we ended up back in the side yard where I got the zincoln on my first target of the day and was a little gunshy on mid-tones. My buddy said in a place this old he digs any repeatable. Thats good advice. So I dig, three in. down I pull a rusty nail, rescan, a little to the right I get a smooth 19-20, Perfect IHP, signal, buddy said he thinks he passed on that earlier cause it was too shallow, I flip a small 3in. plug and laying flat on the bottom of the plug was nice green IHP. One wipe and you could see how nice it was. Filled in the plug and out of habit I scanned one more time and damn if that 27 squeak didn't pop again, clear this time just a little to the right. Meter said deep. I saw shiney in the plug, it was a beautiful sterling ring. It was time to go. I should have looked for the stone in the hole. But it was getting late and I didn't think about it. Still kicking myself for that. Now as with the first hunt there I got a surprise with the officers pin on clean up, this hunt I thought I had a tag of some sort, scrubbed it with water and a nylon brush, I couldn't see any detail on it. The next morning I went out on the back porch lookin over things and I noticed some numbers on the tag. Turn out to be a sundial or something. Another cool surprise. Till next time HH Mark
