I dug this out of the yard. First thought was a shotgun shell casing, however it’s actually some kind of cap or lid. I suspect something mechanical or industrial in nature due to fine threading, heavier construction, black enamel/Japoning finish, and knurled top edge. There is a raised portion on the interior center that is also finished with same black coating as the exterior possibly to accommodate a gasket. The word SUN is stamped once on the top of the object. Anyone have any information?

There it is. Thank you. It never occurred to me that the center was anything other than metal. Thanks again.
