I recently Dug a 1866 Indian Head Penny and it is in alright condition. The pictures I took are not the greatest I can read almost all of liberty pretty good under a microscope. BUT is it worth anything because I soaked it in Olive Oil and it has green corrosion on the back and the front see pics below. Also is it worth getting graded or am I wasting my money thanks

What do you think the grade is by guessing. Also how much do you think it is worth in this condition. Also did I hurt the value by putting it in Olive Oil

I believe it would come back graded "environmental damage", and maybe a grade. I do know that olive oil is organic, acidic, and will eat metal over time. Better to soak in mineral oil.

So it would come back environmentally damage because of the corrosion on the back and front. What do you think it is worth in the condition it is in now?

Verdicare is the product you need to condition that coin and preserve it for years to come. Great find!

ya as said with that corrosion you would get back an "environmentally damaged" grade. negating the value of grading it altogether imo.

olive oil isnt the worst thing but a spec of vasoline lightly rubbed onto the coin and a 2x2 would prob be your best bet to preserve the coin from now on
