I got this a few years ago as change from a store. Its just been laying in my desk, and I forgot about it untill today after browsing this forum.

Its slightly smaller than a normal penny, and *looks* a little thicker. I don't have a scale to check weight. It does have a ridge around the outside, but both sides are blank.

Just wondering if it has any value? Should I sell it or just keep it?

It's called a planchet. They are unstruck pennies, and a bit smaller than normal.

They sell from 1-5 $

Oh I see, maybe the "face" (heads or tails) was cut out? But why would it be cut out of both sides? Doesn't that kind of take away the trick factor? Dunno. I'm ignorant here. Will be interesting to learn about this one.

I have half a Penny that the rim and reverse was cut outwith a space in the middle (missing top) that is designed to hide a dime. they used zink and copper pennies to do this. That could be the extra from that process that went into circulation. Take it to your local coin dealer though, that will determine if its a cutout or a blank.
