First 15 minutes with my new Equinox 800. UNBELIEVABLE

Wow a gold ring rang that high? Good to know. Congrats.

10K gold in eyes of the Jewelry world is barely considered gold. Sure if it's processed then you have a small amount of pure gold. My point is the alloy mixed with the pure gold is what gives you the higher conductive numbers. 10-karat gold consists of 10 parts gold and 14 parts other metals such as copper, silver, nickel and who knows what else if it was a machine made ring from a large company who most likely out sources their materials(dare I say from China??).

That's why gold rings up all over the VDI scale from foil to zincoln.

^^ good post ^^

Yes, even though gold is a high conductor (in pure 24k form) it's the alloys (and varying sizes of our particular gold objects) that give them TID's all over the conductive scale.

While it's rare, there can actually be big fat men's gold rings (like college rings, or whatever) that can read all the way up nearly copper penny !

And pure gold rings (that some Asian cultures make) will read at penny/dime, EVEN when the ring is small. But we're not likely to find those in the USA that often.

Nice going! I just got my 800 a few weeks ago as something else to play with after getting back into the hobby after 10 years. I can’t wait for all the snow and ice to disappear so I can see what it can do! I guess I picked the wrong season to come back. 🙄 It’s gonna be a long wait.

I think you will LOVE this machine. I've used bounty hunters, extera 50, AT Pro, Fisher F95, and the Makro Simplex +. The 800 beats them all in my opinion.

Have you detected this park before and missed these? Unreal i have never had a whole day like that here in p'cola:wow:

Yes sir, you may have just set an ROI record in the metal detecting world. Unless the guy at the factory accidentally loses his wedding a ring while packing up a new machine, I don't see how you can beat this.

Same thing happened to me when I first got my nox. I was in line to get one of the first releases of the nox when they first came out. Didn’t even know the machine and took it to my son’s soccer practice and figured I’d fiddle around with it and try to learn it’s settings and sounds, etc. Second target was a 20/21 and I did remember reading that that was the zinc penny range. About two inches down was a 15 ish gram Gardner Web university class ring. To this day it was the biggest gold ring I’ve ever found. Ended up returning it.

I noticed that besides your Nox you're apparently a dedicated Tesoro man.

That is an awesome few minutes. Congrats on the honker and other finds !!!

Wow! Very strong start! Unfortunately, it will all be insignificant from here on out. Best advice: Return the Equinox now, and retire from detecting. You will be that much ahead already, and you won't ever have to put up with the inevitable dud hunt. Take the win. Then maybe hit the casino? ;)

Great story. But let me share this.

I have helped a number of people get started. One fellow I suggested a Garrett Ace 250 and off he went.

Two weeks later he called me very excited. He had finally gone out and had just dug his SECOND TARGET in a field. An 1876 $20 Double Eagle gold coin. He has also found a second, smaller gold coin.

I hate him.

Good for him. But now nowhere to go but down I'm afraid.

And this is where the full addiction starts I found my first Silver spoon and I quit drinking taking drugs and gambling because it was getting in my way of Metal Detecting.
