Was out diggin today at lunch and found a military button and a round piece of brass that also appears to be a hollowed-out shank-less button as well. The military button says "CITY BUTTONWORKS". What an awesome feeling finding cool stuff!

Any help ID'ing these guys is very appreciated! :D

Thx for looking! Jorge

Great seal button , 1902 to 1955 (1955 cut off date in this case because of the backmark)

Does it have NY or NJ on it after buttonworks ?

If it's has NY on it 1902-1922
If it has NJ on it or perhaps nothing 1923-1955

They moved from NY to NJ in 1923 and sold out in 1955

I believe the raised rim was added in 1910, and the black finish was discontinued in 1923. Statistically WWI is a safe bet.

Thx!

Thx for the input. Really appreciate it.... How about the round one? It's about .5" in diameter. Looks like a rounded button and is very solid brass.

I would say the round one is the top half of a two piece 1800's ball button.
Here are two sizes that show the shanks.
The larger is in the 1/2" range.
