Securing your coil cable

Here's a great new way to secure the coil cable to your detector. First, get rid of the Velcro loops and replace them with 1\8 inch stretch paracord, also known as shock cord. Cut to about 10 inches, form a loop and tie a knot as pictured. Make three of these shock cord loops, unwrap the coil cord completely from your detector, connect the cable to the detector without wrapping it around the shaft. Now secure the coil cable to the lower shaft with one loop, secure the top part of the cable near the connector with the second loop as a strain relief, now pull the cable's slack from the center forming a V, wrap the cable in the direction of your choice around the center shaft until all the slack is removed and secure it with the third loop. Now you can quickly make shaft length adjustments without adding or removing cable wraps, and change out coils in a snap. I purchase lower shafts for each of my extra coils and keep them attached for quick change overs. These loops are also great for cable storage on the extra coils. Much better than Velcro, they stand up to a pounding surf and brush in the woods. The machines run quieter without cable movement too. This cord is available at most sporting goods stores or on Amazon.

interesting idea..

Looks good; probably quicker and easier than Velcro.
I've just been using the Velcro straps from HF, but may try the paracord on machines that get coils swapped.

BTW - how do like running your Tejon with the big DD?

I use the same velcro cable ties I use for my computer cables and TV/DVD player.

I attach them to the cables themself, then wrap them to shaft. I have two ties on the shaft. I have a third one wrapped above the shaft that I use to bundle the cable after I remove that coil from the detector (all of my coils have their own shafts).

I've been meaning to buy another lower shaft for each coil but haven't yet. It's annoying having to unscrew the coil every time you change coils. I also use Velcro bands to secure the cable.
