Dug this up on the beach tonight. Did not get a good look
at it until I got home and was intrigued.

It is a small thin coppery container with two firm rings. Inside rolled
up are two plastic or wax paper like sheets.

The smaller sheet has four by four rows of three and four digit numbers.

The larger sheet has five by five rows of numbers and possibly letters. It is
difficult to make out. A friend says it's possibly letters in a foreign language.

any idea?

The first number of the second box of the second row looks like the number 9.

They all look like numbers to me but they're hard to make out

I would flatten them and scan them. play with the scans in photoshop and try to clear them up.

I'd be paying a visit to the local museum with that..Maybe the location of a buried treasure that washed up on shore, Looks like a fake hollow finger or something worn around the neck by a pirate..:wow:

Ok, I've made out I think most of the numbers on the little sheet.

They go like this... (question marks fill in for numbers I can't make out)

165 ?98 ?001 ??8
101 989 994 999
?90 ?04 996 993
187 996 ?91 1003

Notice any pattern?

I can make out a few of the numbers on the larger sheet,
but everything on that sheet is written smaller (think of
one of those old ink pins with thin curly script) and the
sheet is not as good condition as the smaller which was
inside it. I can make out some english letters and then
some possible cursive writing or foreign stuff.

I read that wax paper was invented by Thomas Edison so
it can't be older than Thomas Edison.

Might be part of a multi-cache geocache. Have found them before with coordinates for next stage of cache...

I thought of this too but the container is odd for something like this
and seems to have been in the water or ground for some time and isn't
geocaching a new thing?

Anyway, here is a pic of the larger sheet. I'm not showing it all
because someone mentioned buried treasure coordinates. :D

Funny, it's transparent wax paper yet if you flip the sheet, it seems
the same thing is written on the back in the other direction!

Also, the numbers on the smaller sheet are written differently
than the numbers on the larger sheet like two different people wrote them.

165 998 1001 108
101 989 994 999
990 104 996 993
187 996 191 1003

Probably not even close but it's just a guess.

It seems as if the numbers never repeat.

They all seem to revolve around the 100's, 180's, 990's and 1000's
