I stopped by a Bank of America today to drop off some nickels. As I was standing in line one of the employees started making her way through the customers asking what each customer was here for, "Do you need a deposit slip, etc". When she got to me I told her that I just had some nickels I was going to exchange. (I opened my bag and showed her the eight rolls of nickels while I was talking) She asked "Do you have an account with us?" I responded with my usual, "No, but my parents do." She said that i needed to have an account to exchange coins and I replied that i was only 16. She repeated i needed an account to which i told her "I've been doing this for over three years. I've come here countless times, gone to other Banks of America in Tallahassee, and Suntrust and i've never needed an account." She said that she had no idea who it was that was letting me exchange but that they couldnt do it. In the end the jerk would have none of it and I had to leave with my nickels. She was telling me all kinds of BS that they needed to track the coins in case there was, (and i quote) "A discrepancy with the coins." I was just like seriously? 8 rolls of nickels? You won't know who brought them in and when as soon as you put them in drawer. I wanted to say "You wanna count 'em right here?" If it were $25+ worth of coins i could understand needing an account, but $16? Are you kidding me? I was careful to show how ticked off I was by rolling my eyes many times at her and shaking my head at her BS. I wish i'd told her how nice the customer service at Suntrust is, and that she was the worst bank employee i'd ever encountered, but unfortunately i didnt think of that until later. I guess she didn't have much Christmas spirit and had decided to be a grinch.

just messing with ya brotha, being that your 16 you will get a lot of flak from certain adults. to them your just a punk kid that they dont have to respect. you handled it a lot better than i would have at 16. leave a review on yelp, or better yet go in with your parents and give the !!!!! a piece of your mind.

coin roll solution.

Take them to Publix, I've never had a problem and they weigh them to see if you are + or - . Go to customer service at the front of all Publix.

Funnily enough, i did end up dumping them there. Since there would have been several people ahead of me in line, i didnt ask mom to come in and show that she had an account. As we pulled up to publix she suggested i just dump them there. :D

Bank of America sucks for many more reasons than not cashing out your nickels but I understand your frustration.

Never had dealings with a bank that was worse than B of A. Absolutely useless.

So, Open an account. I had one before I was 16, 14 I think. Had to have a parent on it with me, but it was mine. Still had trouble though. Tried to cash a check once and they wouldn't. Had dad go in, he had an account there too, and he threw a fit for me. Threatened to move his accounts, with several hundred thousand dollars elsewhere if they ever gave me trouble again. Back in the 70's that was a lot. Guy nearly peed himself. Then the manager took care of it.

The greedy banks are evil beyond all comprehension.
I cancelled several of my remaining accounts this year.
Dealing with ANY kind of coin is the last thing a bank wants to do.
Wish ya luck -

That's just stupid...not exchanging a few rolls of nickels? Really??? Do you have any TD Banks down there in Florida? They are the best!

A long time ago when I was much younger about 12 years old I went to my bank by myself because it was only a block away to get some money out of my savings account.
Back then we had passbooks and the teller would write the transactions line by line in that book as you deposited or took out money.
I think I was withdrawing $5, no more than $10 for some reason, and the lady in the window made a mistake that I noticed as she took the bills out of her drawer.
She never did count back each bill to me like they do nowadays in most banks or casinos, but somewhere along the way she had put a $5 bill in the $1 bill section and gave that to me but counted it as a buck.
I actually tried to point out her mistake but she cut me short, got a bit miffed and proceeded to tell me that she knew what she was doing.
Evidently some young kid trying to help her out and correct her really got her feathers ruffled.

I just smiled and took the money and left.
Even back then the stupidity of some people, some adults included, astounded me.
I wish I was there at the end of her shift to see the look on her face when she counted up and banked that drawer and realized she was short.

My advice to you is avoid the banks if possible and see if there is a local credit union around your area. I have never had a problem with my credit union for anything. I have brought in coins that look like they have gone through a wood chipper and they have taken them. I love my credit union.

I know right! Completely ridiculous. What is a TD bank?

haha that's great. One time a lady handed me a $20 instead of a $10. I showed her the mistake and never again was she cranky toward me and now I always get a smile from her when I walk in.

I think it is just because you are younger I had a checking account when I was 16 I just wasnt able to get a debit card until 18. Just try another bank I know TD Bank you have to have an account to do the same thing however they have the counter that sometimes will give you a wrong count of your money so it is best to get a rough count of what your putting in

BOA is the worst for a number of reasons. In general, banks suck and will rip you off. Credit Unions are better, but the best is USAA.

They are THE worst commercial banks. Wells Fargo aren't far off with their mortgage fraud. I actually had BoA just a block from my house. Nope, didn't touch them with a 100ft pole.

They wanted to charge me $6 to cash a company's check; a payroll check. Wow. I was standing in line already so ended up cashing it but still. They just nickle & dime you plus all the ATM fees and overdraft where they make billions.

Majority of the transaction I now do with a local credit union.
