Need help with id

Found this on old homesite where 1875 dime, 1891 ihp , eagle button back,
And other things were found.Its 8 sided with a griffin on front,back looks like
It may have threads ....not sure . Could it be a top to a perfume bottle or something like that ? It looks like it's pewter even though I never dug anything pewter before. Any help is much appreciated.

Probably correct, a cap off of an old bottle.

Sure hope someone can positively identify it. I have one just like it. Never found out for sure. Good luck. The info on these boards is amazing so maybe someone is up to the challenge.

I believe it is the cap off of a tube as would be on toothpaste or artist's paint.
Added: Griffin shoe polish uses this logo.
