dug this a while back at a home site , allways thought it was too big to be a bullett, i just cant imagine the recoil of a bullet that weighs so much, i dont have a scale but it has to be heavier than a golf ball..it dwarfs a 45 cal. by ALOT!

I haven't seen one shaped like this but the only slug I've seen at that weight is a 10ga. At 0.761" it comes closer to the size of your slug than a 12ga at 0.729.

Not a shotgun slug as they are not pointed nor have grease or crimping groves. I don't know much about civil war bullets but have read where the Confederates ordered a quantity of British pattern 1842 rifled muskets in .76 caliber.

Turn it over and look at the inside. Does it have irregularities on the inside of the base? Imagine taking a spoon and repeatedly hitting some clay in a random pattern, when checking. Could be a bored soldier was being creative.
