and a silver coin dropped out; I checked again and again, but alas there was only one.... but I'll take it !

Wow, very cool- a 1 coin cache ,lol. That is really a neat find though. Quarter, half dollar?
 
Good show ! A full coin purse (or those little mechanical metal slot bank things) is on my bucket list.

A buddy of mine got a coin-purse. That had something like 15 coins, all dated to the teens (barbers, Vs, early wheats, etc...)

nice unique and great find. To put things in perspective.

In 1906 here is what that one quarter would buy you.

1/4 of bacon
4 quarters 1 mens dress shirt
1/4 lb of coffee
2 to 3 movie tickets
12 postage stamps
five bottles of Coca-Colal
1.25 lbs of flower
1.25 lbs of sugar
1 gallon of milk
1.8 lbs of steak
17 lbs of potatos
6 lbs of sweet corn in cans

So as you can see coins were more important then than just change as they are used at today.

what can you buy for a quarter today?

1 piece of bubble gum?
 
Awesome!!! I have found so many compacts that had nothing and 1 that had a bunch of underwear buttons in it.... LOL
