1863 Civil War Token

Here it is after soaking in olive oil and gentle scrub with my old toothbrush:D
The hair looks like feathers!

I wonder if it is worth having it slabbed??

Love this! What a great piece of history right there. Imagine the person who owned that and what it is was like to live back in those days. Congrats!
 
I love those finds as your. It would be adornment of any collection, I'm sure. And Civil War date multiplies the interest. Congratulation MD buddy.
 
Great token, looks like you cleaned off the patina though?!?!?!?!? Why? Say it isn't so, The horror!
EDIT uggg I kept reading...the olive oil thats why its now patinaless and dark.

Try distilled water soaks next time. Or if you use something acidic don't use olive oil, use asorbic acid solution and neutralize it with a base quickly after. With anything acidic you can easily lose the patina if not careful. Ok sorry my rant is over. Still a great token.
