You did quite well in your own right. Not big silver but a sweet haul for sure. Congrats on the shiny, Ihps and other goodies. Love the old dog tag. Good luck,Mark

You guys scored nicely over there! Oldest dog tag I've seen too. The 1916S dime is a hard to find one too. At least in Wisconsin, the S mint silvers are semi-rare digs, and first year mercs are fairly rare digs. Both markings on one dime are nearly impossible to dig.

... and my find of day an 1898 Anacortes Dog Tax Tag!

Great job yesterday Dan!

You guys realize that could be valuable, right ? Dog tags that old, from east of the Mississippi aren't that uncommon. But to find dog tags that pre-date 1900 (ESPECIALLY from small-ish towns) on this coast, is very rare. And they can command big bucks.

If you want to float it past a collector for a bid or evaluation, let me know and I'll dig up the name of one of the collector-buffs to pass to you.

And you'll notice that was dog #10 for that year in that city. I'll bet they didn't pass out many more than that. Perhaps there was only 10 tags passed out that year, haha Nice job !

1898 Dog Tax Tag update.

Tom,

Here is the reply i recieved from jon. Thx for pointing me in the right direction.

Hi Dan!

Wow, that's an awesome tag!!! I'm not a dog tag expert, but what I learned from my recent experience (1898 Hollister, CA tag) was that the smaller cities are the ones that tend to be more desirable due to the fact that they are more rare.! Large cities issued plenty of tags, even back in the 1800s, but small towns issued many less.! The fact!that yours is an even number (easy 10 as opposed to something like #891) would probably have collectors salivating.! I put mine on eBay and it sold for $331 (though I was offered $400 at one point).! I would guess that yours would fetch more.! There are some deep pockets out there in the dog tag game...
