Here is a lesson I've learned the hard way after a year of detecting.

My V3i developed a bad case of the 'chatters' a while ago. The machine was plain unusable. No matter what I did, the chatter made it impossible to hunt. Since I put a coil cover and didn't seal it, I suspected this was the cause. I finally took the cover off and did indeed find quite a bit of sand and mud and stuff under there BUT, in the process of doing this, I discovered that the coil cable connector was lose at the control box! This can definitely cause chatter and instability! I tightened the connector and now the unit is back to normal.

So the moral of this story is: Do a little check up on your machine every time you put it away after each hunt.
