Went out to the beach today, I believe I found a silver half dollar. Is there a way short of electrolysis to remove this black crust? Is there hope I'll get an ID off this coin?

Thanks in advance

Wrap in tinfoil and soak in vinigar for a rew minutes. Then use baking soda to scrub the crust off. Being that corroded I would just use electrolysis.

Flick it to the floor and most of the caking will come right off.

Awesome! Thanks so much guys. First half, first beach silver, first silver half. 1964 Kennedy 90%er. I was thinking it might have been a Franklin but I'm so happy with this coin.

Super Congrats!!! Found Walkers, Franklins, but never a Kennedy 90%'er....that is awesome.

I have dug many dollars worth of clad at the beach and have only found one silver coin. It was in a wallet. No identification in the wallet. There was an 7 year old expired credit card.

Nice find.
The 64's were hoarded quickly, not because of silver, but because of the man the coin portrayed. The 65 through 67 were hoarded first for their silver, and then secondly because of the man the coin portrayed.

Nice cookie coin! Congrats. Don't throw away that crust. It has silver in it. If you weigh the coin now, you'll find it weighs less than it should.
