In OBX you can't md south of Jennettes Pier in Nags Head.
Every thing south is US National Seashore.
But you can drive four wheel drive vehicles with a permit and do all sorts of things on those beaches. The powers that be think mding is a serious crime and threat to national security
Oh don't forget about the Piping Plover bird that the government protects more than our country's high schools.

We go there every year. We really like it. Metal detecting was better last year though this year when we were there they had just done beach reclamation by pumping sand up onto the beaches.
This time of year would be better because of the recent storms.
