Besides putting them in circulation the article also said:

"Organizers of the Great American Coin Hunt are also encouraging collectors and dealers to drop coins in publicly accessible areas for those who wish to hunt with metal detectors. These areas will be marked on ZeeMaps as well."

Cool! I’ve been doing that from time to time, for years - spending Ike dollars (tips), Kennedy halves, dozens of cull IH’s, worn buffalos...couple years back I released over 1,000 Jefferson nickels 1940-1958 (minus the war nicks), all hoping to encourage more collectors. Let’s face it, coin collecting is a dying hobby, most kids today have no interest, period. We have to push some new interest, get those kids involved if you can!
