IMHO, I honestly believe you would be better off saving up for one that you can get serviced. I know after a couple years even the Garrets could fail, but my last one I sent in was flat-rated for 45.00 and I couldn't tell the difference between my refurbished and a new one.
I'm not saying you have to go with Garrett, but think of it this way, you if you can swing the 40.00 you are only 80.00 away from a good one.
I've seen others buy the Chinese knockoffs, and that's what most people get is just something that looks like a real one.
I truly believe you would be happier waiting

I got one to give as a gift. Work's surprisingly well. Added the 3 year replacement warranty for 5 bucks. There's several youtube reviews. If you're a dedicated detectorist, buy a good one. If you're on a budget try it. At worst you're out 40 bucks. If my more expensive one dies, I'm gonna replace it with one of these.
