What a find. These are gag runners for a working harness for a working team of horses. They would install these behind the headstall of a working team of horses that would have to pull logs or something. They were for holding a long heavy duty rein ( like the rein guides ) that went to a hard bit so the horses would stop after being told to go go go sometimes with a whip so you can imagine how important it would be to stop the team. They used gag runners so they could yank the horses head upward and back, the surest way to try to stop on the go, feisty or spooked horses. HH 401K
