At a very old site I have been hunting for my part of the country that has very little nonferrous items. The site is situated in planted pine woods but at one time I figure it was fields or pasture. I have found the odd piece of wheel turned stoneware and a couple of weeks ago I found what I think is part of a pewter spoon handle. It is heavy almost like lead and is grainy at the breaks. Looks really old to me. Can it be dated by just the handle.

The only nonferrous I have found there is one musket ball. A Union infantry button, and the spoon handle section.

When enlarged it looks to me like the blade may have been stainless, based on the small section that can be seen in between the the two parts of your handle.
Am I seeing that right?
Maybe also some letters peeking through from some words on it... but that too could just be my eyes making things up.
