10-40% of US could open to detecting, if

We’ve all paid more than enough in taxes over the course of our working lives. Public ground is ours.

No kidding. When I open up my monthly bill for natural gas, there are eight lines of different taxes. All the taxes combined equals more than the actual amount of gas I purchased.

Generally I would agree with the camp that says best to leave it alone. I do want to say we have had a metal detecting permit system in our city parks for many years. It is $1 for a year pass or you can buy a 5 year pass for $5. The price has never changed and no bad has ever come due to this system. We all gladly pay our $5 and hunt any city park to our hearts content. Only real stipulation is ballfields are off limits. I have hunted all around the ballfields in off season with no issues. I have never been questioned or hassled by any city worker. In fact they have been very friendly the few times they even bothered to speak to me.
