Default What is this

I found this in northern ND. It's a smooth black rock that has 3 layers, first layer is smooth black and brittle, second layer is a very soft, almost powder rust red substance, inner layer seems to be metallic. Magnet test was negative.

Could be any one of a variety of iron ore...Only one variety is magnetic...Magnetite

I can't see it.

Detectors. Garrett AT Pro,Ace 250.Minelab Sov Elite.Equinox 800. Compadre on indefinite loan.
They can have my metal detector when they pry it from my cold dead hands!! John 14:6.
