I'm going to just throw this map in here and hope for some input.

We've been researching the tobacco fields here in CT and would love to be taken to one. It seems most were located by the CT River.

"Tobacco comes into use as "Country Money" or "Country Pay" in the colonies. Tobacco continues to be used as a monetary standard--literally a "cash crop"-- throughout the 17th and 18th Centuries, lasting twice as long as the gold standard."

I caught this picture of a tobacco truck as we were turning on a street in downtown Grandby.

There is a ton of them up near Windsor Locks Carol as well as New Milford...

Carol, I would try to find some knowledgeable old timers from that area. They will point you to the oldest fields and you won't have to waste your time at the library (if you want a quick hunt). Other wise, go to the library and find the oldest field you can.

Old tobacco tins and packages were very stunning , art wise, any relics you can find relating to the days when tobacco was used basically as a cash substitute, would be a really good find. smg
