Civil War Button?

I found this in central NC near an abandoned road. The musket ball came from the same general area. Pretty had to see detail, but holding a flashlight to the side seems to revel the outline of an eagle. I can't quiet make out the letter in the middle of the shield, but it could be an "I".

gseuser, thanks for the confirmation! I wonder how it ended up at this site? There wasn't any civil war activity in the area that I know of, but there is an old abandoned major road that went north-south. Must be related to that?

Maybe a veteran lived there? Could also be from the old road too!

Nice find. I recently pulled five eagle buttons from an old home site that I can't find any ties to the CW. But I'm not complaining! Just gives me more to research. Congrats on your button

I'll be going back and searching more along the old road. There are two old homesteads nearby with a pile of chimney rocks the only remaining evidence.

Do you guys think that musket ball is related to civil war era?
