Well went out today for about 15minutes and set out to find just one coin, after I found the lone penny me and my brother went to the thrift store and I bought this sterling silver chain for only $3! Made In germany and it measures over a foot long. Man I love my local Savers!!!

stamped "germany".

It's really very nice sterling.. a couple people were going to buy it before I snatched it up and I got it 50% off. Not even close to what my sister scored at "goodwill" though, let me tell you a little story.

She was going to the 32nd st. goodwill and bought a nice christmas bulb and a metal apple. The bulb turns out to be from the 1930's and has 24k gold stars inbeded into it including the top which is all 24k gold. Then she hears something rattling in the metal apple and she can see something shinny.... so she opens up the apple and low and behold she finds a 14k gold necklace. She got both for $4.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but - - your piece is not silver . It's "German Silver" or "Nickel silver" which has no silver content at all. It polishes up just like silver & all. I worked with it a lot when I taught high school silversmithing and it was a good substitute for silver sometimes. Sorry, here's a couple sites to read about it, Steve in so az
