Did I get scammed?

live and learn buddy. the thing is both could have set up an ebay accounts and you both could of done your transactions that way through ebay. It would of been very simple for both party's. hope everything works out well.... alwYS ACOUNTY FOR SHIPPING COSTS FROM ONE COUNTRY TO ANOTHER...

Shipping costs weren’t the problem, getting through China Customs was the problem. They are very strict on what can be imported, and even often send back items that aren’t restricted as well just for the hell of it. Setting up Ebay accounts wouldn’t have helped one bit, and just cost both parties more money on each transaction.

MrNovice that is the best way I have seen it described! I was dumbfounded that they would treat business that way. Let alone a couple paying customers.

Read the whole thread. I suspected it was the customs bottleneck before I even got to the explanation and before I even knew it was China.

Socialist countries are very suspect of the metal detecting hobby.

It is an activity that they would have difficulty tracking and taxing. Nuff said.

Just an update. I haven't heard from Glen in a while. I haven't received any money from him. He doesn't want to post the detector on ebay and he doesn't want to mail it anywhere using usps.
If someone is interested in an excal for very cheap I will post his name, number, address shortly.

If anyone lives near the jersey shore and wants an excal for cheap just send me a message.
Egg harbor to be precise. Couple hundred bucks and it's yours

Wow this situation is a testament to just sell it unless you can exchange in person. Sorry for your loss!

It is what it is I guess. Had 4 pm messages in 4 hours of people willing and asking to go get the detector. Glen Ellenbart has had it for over a month and hasn't been able to find a single one in the Egg Harbor area.

If I had someones detector and they wanted to sell it for X amount of dollars. I would automatically send that amount or send 1/2 and the other 1/2 when it was sold. This is just "honest" common sense. A month after him receiving it back I have to open a paypal case in an attempt to recover some shipping fee money I sent him. Im still out an ATX that I paid to deliver to the guy too.

Will see how this develops over the next week or so. Several people are willing to go collect the detector that live not too far away.

Still nothing from Mr Glen Ellenbart in Egg Harbor. NJ. If anyone wants to go collect an excal or an ATX at a fire sale price just send me a message. I will give you the address, name, phone number where to recover the stolen property
