This afternoon I pulled over to a likely looking curb strip. The first 2 targets were wheat pennies, a ‘24 and a ‘44, so I had a feeling I was in a good spot.

Many Memorials, pull tabs and rusty nails later, I pulled a large brass circle out of the sand. Saw stars along part of the rim but nothing that looked familiar.

At home, I saw I had a souvenir coin from the 1939 World’s Fair in New York. While a large variety of tokens were offered, this was one of the few “ official “ designs.

A good scrubbing, several hours soaking in ketchup, more scrubbing, an application of Goo Gone, another ketchup bath, a toothpick cleaning, Brasso, and a coating of KY Jelly and this is what we get.

Yes, excellent cleanup job! Nice find too. Reminds me of one of my earlier detecting finds from many years ago; a similar medallion from the 1895 World's Fair in Chicago. Very memorable dig for me, as will this be for you. Congrats.

Back in the 1960's I was trying out my homemade detector and found a New York city worlds fair medallion. The detector had to see something big like that but it saw little else. I still have the medallion.

Wow!! Threw everything under the sun at it, but it sure was worth it! That cleaned up very nicely...what a tremendous, unique find!

Very cool find and clean up nice. Would of never thought of using KY Jelly for that type of application though... My wife may question that type of purchase.

Chip, I've dug that same coin! I never knew what it was because there were only a few of that rays visible after years in the ground, but damnit if that's not it!

That's rad. Cool save

I have found one World Fair Token in my life----and it was one just like yours! In a field less than a mile from my house in Carolina. Unfortunately it wasn't as nice as yours. Great find...
