Hi Newbie from upstate New York here!! Poked around site a little bit and already learned a lot! I received an inexpensive detector for Christmas and I'm having a ball with it. I inherited some land when my Dad passed, so far I've found coins, tools and lots of pop tops and cans. Soon I'll be upgrading my detector, so I'm open for suggestions...Thanks

Regarding the land, are you looking for something specific?

To help the forum members to know which possible detectors to suggest at least post:
1.) price range you want to stay within
2.) will you be only detecting on dry land or also in water or at beaches (and fresh or salt water ?)

Not really looking for anything specific on the land at this point, still at the point of getting excited when it beeps! (IT COULD BE ANYTHING!) I do have a creek in the area, but mostly dry hunting

Have you tried rock wall metal detecting?
You may see me along RT 23 !

The best metal detector is the one you have fun with then move on from there.
