So I found a mercury dime today while hunting in the ocean. I have found silver dimes before but this one seems different. The outer layer is flakey and has a almost glimmer to it. What would be the best way to preserve and clean what’s left of it? I don’t want to cause anymore more damage to it. Thanks!

I'd wrap it in a towel and smack it with a hammer. Worked good on a real crusty war nickel I found once.

Good thing you can tell what it is cuz I sure can’t! Interesting that silver would go so bad like that....good luck!

There are some YT vids on cleaning crud off salt water silver.

I believe the Gigmaster has a Vid cleaning them similar to what Stiffwrists posted
