Ornate brass thing?

I found this thing today and have no idea what it is. Shotgun shell for size reference. Anyone got a clue? It's not flat, it's a flattened dome in shape, engraved pretty ornately. There is nothing on the back and no attachment points.

It looks like the lid (or part) of an antique ladies' powder compact. Many of those used to be brass. It would help to see the back of it.

Pocket watch case! I should have seen that. Thanks guys, I love this place!
Now, if it has only been one of those 18k cases instead of brass.
