Hey all you button experts...I think I may have found my first old button and I was hoping you folks could help me identify it.

I think it's a flat button, the front is smooth and, um, flat:

The back has the words, "WARRANTED RICH GILT", with stars between words:

Google makes a reference to a story about some skeletons dug in the early 1900's with clothing that had this type button on it.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Tony

Check out Waterbury,Ct companies....warranted gilt is one of the levels of gold or gold color alloy that coats the button...at least that is what I read. Sure does look like you have some gold on it...nice find.

buttons like that were very in style from the very early 1800's to about 1830's or 40's

Thanks very much for the responses...so this may be a Waterbury button?
