Down in the Dumps! (Last Trip!)

If you have real pain in the butt bottles to clean there are quite a few ways to get them ungunked inside.

Water and Barkeepers Friend with a baby bottle brush

bit of sand and some water swirled/sloshed/shaken

water and bit of CLR is good for the calcite and lime residue

fill one side of the sink with water and dump in a cup of white vinegar and let them sit for awhile.

tiny copper pellets and water

those are the "basic" ways i've cleaned bottles before.

keep the pics coming!!

Don't worry more pics coming soon. I've tried most of those except copper pellets and water never thought of that! Anyways should be going back this weekend if it's chilly.

good luck digging!!! I havent tried the copper method yet either, but people on the bottle forums swear by it. I hate that white scale that gets into bottles and the small etching cuts in the glass.

I'm hauling the 2box detector up the farm this weekend during the youth hunting weekend. Let the kids hunt with grandpa and spend some alone daddy time looking for ore. It is the copper country after all! But reading this thread makes me want to dig too. And it's nice and cool out now. I'll probably just test the 2box out, haul out the F2 and MD toward the dumps so I can do both.

Yeah the copper method seems like it would damage the glass. Anyways I forgot to take pictures of some more finds I found last time I went up there just tell me if you want me to post the pictures on here. I should take some pictures of where I'm digging to actually show you guys what I'm digging in. It only goes down about a foot at the part I'm at right now. That "Christmas" Coca Bottle was a sign that the dump was getting a bit older than my usual 40's. I'll also post a pic of the other dump I found. Sadly, it looks 60's unless it gets older downhill. Anyways good luck going out to your farm.

Hey everyone got some nice bottles today. Also, I got a big cut on my middle finger from the glass cutting through 2cm thick gloves it'll be alright though. Anyways here's my favorite finds of today. I have some more in the basement that I though weren't worth showing just tell me if you want to see em.
Here's two 40's (Saccharin?) Abbott Lab. Jars.

Here we got a nice alcohol bottle looks like whiskey. It's very heavy and has a nice design on the front. It's the crappy "Federal Law prohibits sale or reproduction of this bottle". I know but it's a very nice bottle.

Ah and I also found a nice milk with paint still on it. It was extremely well preserved. Sadly, I left it up there and this weekend I'll have to go and get it it's very nice and a distinct thing a remember on it is a 3 (cent symbol) circled. It's written in orange.

Well atleast I think I'm getting into the early 30's this dump goes a good distance so I can only hope that it gets into the 1800's...

Dont want to sadden you but only the last green bottle has value. I break or pass up 99% of screw lid bottles.(they arent old/collectable)

I know I'm just one of those guys that like to keep everything they find because I like it myself. I'm not in it for the value in price I'm in it for fun! :D

Thought you guys deserved an update! Yesterday went up there for a few but went exploring for a bit. This site really excites me, though I'm going to finish up the 30's-40's dump first. This was on the surface and was surprisingly intact! This is a "SPARK'S KIDNEY & LIVER CURE CAMDEN, N.J."

Don't know what it's doing so far away from home but I'll take in a friendly straggler! Meh I'm sure it's common. Anyways should be finishing up the other dump in probably a month. I'm only one person anyways! :D
==============================================
Anyone who watched my videos should be informed that I'll also probably be taking video soon just learning how to not make my videos with bad angles etc.

Well yesterday I finished up the dump I was on and will later concentrate on the 1800's dump. Most likely in two weeks for a little break. Anyways got some good finds and possibly a little older this time than the previous times.

As always info and prices are always welcomed!

It's great that you have a place like that to hunt! Must be like a kid in a candy store; except your parents aren't telling you it's bad for you!
