Found this ring at a early 1800s home site, it's got me stumped. I think it's silver but not sure. It's really lite in weight but I doubt it's aluminum, it was really expensive in the 1800s. No visible hallmark, hesitant to bend it. Plus it's odd that the band is soldered for a silver ring. It is also big for a child's ring. It has initials hand cut into it as well. Ideas ?

Looks silver to me. I don't see any signs that aluminum usually has sitting in the ground for a long time. That script screams 1800s to early 1900s at the latest. Great find. Also do not bend if you don't knew what your doing. You need heat and a careful hand

I'd say the fact it is soldered, and initialed, tells me its probably silver..

Never seen an aluminum ring soldered, the old aluminum rings were usually adjustable kids rings..

Congrats, cool dig!

Silver is my guess because engravers will not engrave on steel or aluminum only precious metals and thats hand engraved so most likely silver, white gold or platinum!

Agree that its turn-of-the-century script. Almost guaranteed to be old silver. Nice find.
