Can any of you button gurus help me identify and/or give me a possible age on this button? Pulled it out of the ground today and originally just thought it was junk as it was so corroded. Decided to give it a quick rinse and toothbrush scrub and discovered an eagle on it. It appears to possibly be a cufflink? Any help is appreciated!

Looks like it's a General Service cuff link button. I think they started making these in 1854 and soldiers wore them in the Civil War... correct me if I am wrong, people! Great find! :D

The only US General Service button made that had an iron back was the kepi button. It laid against the leather strap. Otherwise the iron back would show rust on the uniform. Nice find.
